A 10 hour drive in only 3 days...
Well, here is the short version...
Once the movers were all packed up and had the car on the truck even, the wife and I spent the last night in SC sleeping on the floor of our house... So much for everyone who tells me that sleeping on the floor is GOOD for my back...
So we get the car loaded up and head out... It's over 2 hours through small town and such traffic to reach the Interstate (I-20). We get there eventually, grabbing some McDonald's along the way. I figure I'll diet when I get to TN
We keep on trucking to the Atlanta bypass (285) where it suddenly feels like I have a flat! Swerve across 6 lanes of traffic to get off at the exit and I pull into a parking lot to look. Crap, not tire damage, which means it has to be something worse :(
Sure enough, get back in the car and now even at slow speed it feels like the wheel is about to come off...
I'm in a bad part of town, but not much choice, so I pull into a motel and we load in for the night (turns into 2 nights...) until I can get the car up to Pep Boys down the road to try and fix it in the morning... Praise Buddha that I broke down at the exit where all the service centers are.. LOL :)
Crappy hotel, no HBO working, TV remote doesn't work, drunks hollering all night and people peeling out in the parking lot too. Ah well...
Turns out the front driver's side axle was shot, so they had to replace that, the tie rod and the CV... Funny enough, even though I know dick about cars, I was correct in my diagnosis that the wheel was about to come off! LOL! Better there than coming down Monteagle Mountain (5% grade!!!).
Okay, now it's Sunday...
Then, we finally leave Atlanta and start on back to TN... 10 miles outside Chattanooga on I-75, my driver's rear tire blows out big time. I have to change the tire on the side of the interstate with big trucks zooming by a foot away from me at 75mph!!! Finally get that done, though not much good for my knee and back!!!
We make it over the mountain with the little donut tire on, and all the way to our new home. Turns out when the tire blew (we ran over something... hole in new tire the size of my fist and shredded steel belts) it also damaged the rear driver's side air strut assembly. Now the air pump runs constantly so I had to disconnect it so the battery doesn't die...
Again, better that it blew out there than 15 minutes later going down Monteagle!!!
Made it to new house. Slept for 2 days. Started unpacking boxes of stuff. Comcast came and hooked up cable modem, but it stopped working and had to wait for repair 2 days later. The Comcast cable here sucks too :( No DVR boxes. No digital audio out, which means that they are basically lying when they tell you that you get digital picture and sound. Heck, the signal is analog on the line anyway. Took them 2 weeks to get the TV working, had to switch out the box and change a bunch of things to get it working. Comcast is a joke. I may keep the cable modem and get satellite instead...
Anyway, I'm finally home :)
